Oceans to Ash originally began as a recording project of Kris kHz, the guitarist of The Existential Gentlemen. Kris would record new ideas all the time, but he realized they didn't all work for the same band, so he kept his recording files well organized, channeled his energy and focused on the songs that made the best candidates for making a new band around during The Existential Gentlemen's downtime. Then one drunken night, Kris met a bassist named Cody and the two developed a lasting connection. Kris showed Cody the new songs and had Cody create his own new bass grooves, even collaborating on a metal remix with synth band Candy Apple Blue for the song Detonator, on which Kris played the guitars for the original version. One night, Kris received a phone call from John who hoped for Kris to record his new band if he could find the missing members, but Kris and John quickly became friends and decided to collaborate. A few days later, Kris and Cody went over to John's house to see if he was worthy, and he was, so the three of them decided to begin practicing together weekly and searching for a second guitarist and a vocalist. They made Craigslist ads and tried out a few guitarists, but they were blown away when Ben showed up and could already perform 3 whole original songs note-for-note by carefully studying the demo versions of the songs on the SoundCloud link from within the Craigslist ad. It was settled, Ben was "in". The four of them played a few fun shows as an instrumental outfit, but now it was time to find a singer. Many try-outs and singer demos later, Christian finally came along and was the perfect fit.
Oceans to Ash is currently in the studio working on recording their first EP and playing shows all throughout Pittsburgh, so follow us and check back often for new show dates to be added.
